This is a story about the life and death of Anastasia Romanov, the famous tsarina of Russia. She was the youngest of four sisters, and she had one younger brother. She loved to play jokes on her sisters. She enjoyed the outdoors and was popular among the Russian people. During World War I, her father resigned as tsar of Russia to try to ensure peace among his people. Later a new government, the Bolsheviks, had the Romanov family killed and buried in a secret place. I enjoyed the biography. it described parts of Anastasia's everyday life. The book has many old photos of the Romanov family, from infancy to the end of their lives. It even includes some snippets of letters written by Anastasia. The biography gives the feel that Anastasia could have easily been the girl next door. The book almost reads like a photo album, giving it a more personal feel. This would be a good book to read to students to get them interested in biographies because it is put together like a photo album. It has real-life photos. The main person is a girl not a "boring adult". The end has a mystery to it that is solved. It would be a good biography book to use as an example to pique students' interests in reading biographies. Students could have a group discussion of how this girl that lived long before them is similar to them in the present day. Students could also make an illustrated album of their families lives and share with the class their family biography. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

The Romanov family has been a favorite of mine to read about. Not sure why but Anastasia seems to be the fan favorite of the family. Maybe because she appeared to be normal and not just royal. She had fun climbing trees, taking photos of her family and making faces in photos others took of her. Maybe it is because people want to believe she made it out of the war alive. This book describes a little of those things and there are many other books that go into detail about Anastasia and the rest of the Romanovs. This one is a good starting point for juvenile readers.
The pictures in the books are good although they are ones that I have seen before. I feel like we could have learned a little more about Anastasia in general. The book goes more in detail about the whole family which is part of her history but this is a book that is supposed to be about Anastasia, not just the Romanov family.
This is a book for ages 8 - 12 and it is a good start on the history of Tsar Nicholas’ family. As a kid, I would have loved this book. I will be keeping this for my Romanov collection which is getting really big. ( )
