Elvis the King Spaceport has grown into the sprawling city-state of New Memphis - an urban jungle, where organised crime is rife. But the launch of the new Terminal 13 hasn't been as smooth as expected. And things are about to get worse... When the Doctor arrives, he finds the whole terminal locked down. The notorious Invisible Assassin is at work again, and the Judoon troopers sent to catch him will stop at nothing to complete their mission. With the assassin loose on the mean streets of New Memphis, the Doctor is forced into a strange alliance. Together with teenage private eye Nikki and a ruthless Judoon Commander, the Doctor soon discovers that things are even more complicated - and dangerous - than he first thought... Featuring the Tenth Doctor as played by David Tennant in the hit Doctor Who BBC Television series.… (más)

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice and rare surprise having the doctor without a companion. Well except for Nikki and the Judoon Commander.
It was nice to meet a Judoon who wasn’t so Judoon. The fact that he shows some sort of feelings when Nikki is held hostage shows that no matter what you think of someone they can surprise you.
I loved the ending that the Judoon resigned as commander and works for Nikki and her dad. The plot twist when you find out who the Widow is great. I had a feeling it would either be her or her mother. I would highly recommend this book to a fellow Whovian ( )

Suprising character depth make this one of the best Doctor Who stories I've read. ( )

Features the 10th Dr post Donna. A trip to the Elvis the King Spaceport in New Memphis gets the Doctor involved in a war between two crime lords.
An easy story to read, good characterisations and a grippping enough story line. ( )

Another Ten-on-his-own Who novel, this time featuring a feud between crime lords on a spaceport, a petty thief recognisable by his skin colour, a seventeen-year-old girl detective (whose name is Nikki rather than Mary Sue), and on the plus side a Judoon commander who is actually allowed to develop a character. Rather minor stuff, frankly. ( )

Another Doctor Who novel, one of the last ones for the Tenth Doctor. This one sees him landing at Terminal 13 of Elvis the King Spaceport in New Memphis, a city full of organised crime and an invisible assassin. And then the Judoon appear.

I don't really have any strong feelings about the Judoon one way or the other, and I think this is the first Doctor Who novel for Colin Brake so I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It was actually a lot better than I expected. The plot is quite good and it's well written. It seems to get a little sidetracked part way through, but as it moves towards the finale, it all makes sense. I was certainly kept reading and managed to finish the book in three days.

The Doctor's characterisation was nicely done and the two companions he picks up are fairly well rounded and suitably matched to the Doctor. The first one, Nikki, is a feisty young teen, vaguely reminiscent of Rose with her determination and feistyness; the second is the Judoon Commander. The Commander's character has some very nice growth throughout the story and goes from initially being just another blank military-minded drone to a defined character with - quite amazingly - a sense of humour! It certainly made me like the Judoon an awful lot more than I had done. Definitely one of the better Doctor Who novels - they do seem to get better the further into the series you go! ( )
