F/SF Three fun novellas in the series, and they're all great fun in there own way. The first fills in some early days on the home front when the Man-Kzin wars are just getting started, the second expands on how humans got FTL and the third is an awesome reconfirmation of what makes a Kzin a Kzin. If you like the series, make sure you read this instalment. 3 stories: 1. Colebatch does a marvelous job of describing how hard the ARM tried to prove that the first Kzin contact didn't happen. 2. I can't quite tell how good Martin is, because of Benford's influence in cramming a super-universal story into 230 pages describing the genesis of the Outsiders (and Others) by super entities just after the Big Bang--Benford has a tendency to overly grandiose mythological cum metaphysical story lines [I really didn't care for the "official" sequel to the Time Machine that he wrote] and too eager to show off his "ability" to craft "large" scale plot lines that are, in the end, more than is needed for the story...maybe it was Martin that added the (almost believable) first Puppeteer encounter. In any case, the strength of the Outsiders was their mystery. By trying to explain them Benford has much diminished them in my view. I just can't help but feel that Martin & Benford were trying too hard to cram too much into too short a story. 3. And finally Chafe comes across again with another winner by explaining how our war-winning skills are pushing the Kzin against the wall and forcing them to learn the concept of all-out-war to save their civilization. Stories about the carnivorous, cat-like Kzin. The concept was created by Larry Niven for his Known Space series; then it was expanded on by various other writers to create a satisfying, well rounded picture of an alien species. The stories in this book are - "The Colonel's Tiger," by Hal Colebatch - "A Darker Geometry," by Mark O. Martin and Gregory Benford - "Prisoner of War," by Paul Chafe sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
