One of the most recognizable big-screen stars of the past half-century, Sir Roger Moore played the role of James Bond longer than any other actor, bringing his finely honed wit and wry charm to one of Hollywood's most beloved and long-lasting characters. Still, Bond was only one in a lifetime of roles stretching back to Hollywood's studio era, and encompassing stardom in theater and television on both sides of the Atlantic. From Hollywood to London to extreme locations the world over, Roger Moore's story is one of the last of the classic Hollywood lives as yet untold--until now. From the dying days of the studio system and the birth of television, to the quips of Noël Coward and David Niven, to the bedroom scenes and outtakes from the Bond movies, this book is a treasure trove of Hollywood history.--From publisher description.… (más)

This is an amusingly told memoir, lots of good stories and names. There are a few rather naughty stories in places, but for the most part it is as light and playful as you would expect from the witty lover Bond. This was especially fun to read after Love and Let Die, by John Higgs, which compares and contrasts the Beatles’ and James Bond’s respective influences on British and global pop culture. Some stories overlap and are consistent as far as I can tell. With regard to non-Bond stories, I learned a fair bit about The Saint and found the appendix interestingly structured: it contains a bunch of anecdotes from Moore’s travels with UNICEF, sorted by country. The book contains two sets of photos, with everyone labelled, which I always appreciate. ( )

Moore's autobiography with the chronology of his life and crammed with anecdotes. Roger Moore started with occasional jobs in England then came to the US where he signed with a studio and wound up on TTV with series including Ivanhoe, The Alaskans, seven years as The Saint, The Persuaders, and made it back to the movie screen as James Bond. Along the way he crossed paths with numerous stars of stage and screen. Lots of fun and a very readable account. ( )

Very enjoyable. Lots on the Saint and the Persuaders which I'm more into than Bond in fact. Had the pleasure of seeing Sir Roger interviewed live in a theatre recently and he was tremendously good value. The work he's done for UNICEF is most impressive. I read this as a Kindle and very disappointed that there were no photos, just as I was with the Julie Christie book. ( )

A very well written memoir. Funny, witty and down to earth. For all his swashbuckling as Agent 007, this book reveals that the third James Bond is a very kind, caring and down to earth human being who really did not forget this humble roots. The person who had to struggle to make it until he was in his forties when he got his break playing the role of Simon Templar in The Saint and then followed by Agent 007 after which he really did not look back.

Very interesting anecdotes of his working experiences with the Who's Who of Hollywood and the wider acting world and his untiring role as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He has devoted more than 30 pages to his experiences with that organization. All in all, a very highly recommended read.

I dedicate this book to my parents, who I miss so much; to my darling Kristina and our ever-growing family, Deborah, Geoffrey, Christian, Hans-Christian, Christina and the little ones — who get bigger by the day.

For years, people have said to me 'Write your book,' and for years I said, 'No, there are too many people I'd have to write about, and even if they're dead, what I might say would be an intrusion on their privacy.'
