Stephan Valeriu is a young Romanian, and this is a collection of short stories about the women he loved. First, there’s the story of Renée, Martine and Odette from his stay on the picturesque lake. Then, there is the story of Emilie, a sad and unlikely love story of a woman who he never thought would fall in love. Then, there is the story of Maria, creatively told solely through a letter from Maria to Stephan. And last there is the story of Arabela, the woman he met while visiting the circus. Each story is unique, yet all are linked, because each story belongs to Stephan at different stages of his life. Each is a story of turn-of-the twentieth century love and relationships between men and women.

This book is a reprint from the original Romanian printing in 1933. I did not care for it. It was trite and uninteresting.
