This volume in the series brings the reader to the 1820's. The ships both naval, and merchantile are given a readable tereatment as to their technical changes. The illustrations are qite useful. The next three volumes will deal ewith the final era of the large merchant sailing ship, and the nineteenth century experiments in naval propulsion and weaponry. ( )
