A Visit to Galápagos must have been a labor of love by the author, Katie Lee. It contains her paintings of the various types of animals inhabiting these islands, with accompanying text describing the natural history of each. Included are paintings of the giant Galápagos turtles, the green sea turtle, three lizard species (marine iguana, land iguana, and lava lizard), a wide variety of birds (including penguins, cormorants, finches, mockingbirds), mammals (sea lions, fur seals), and a few invertebrates and plants). The paintings are nicely rendered, with a playful touch, although some are a bit 2-dimensional; they also are accurate as to coloration. The accompanying text identifies each species and offers information on habitat, feeding, and reproduction. At 64 pages (each 11"x 8.5"), this little book offers a gentle tribute to the wildlife on these unique islands, now (thankfully) protected by Ecuador. ( )
