He sends a dove with an order for the owner of the bakery shop and waits for his bagel to come back. When his bagel doesn't come he goes on a search for his bagel and doesn't find it but when he is at the bakery he finally gets the news about his bagel. He doesn't get the actual bagel but he gets the recipe to make the bagel and he makes it with his friends that he talked to when he was looking for his bagel. Then once it is made they all eat the bagel together and it is very delicious. So now Yum Yum the boy looking for the bagel has finally gotten the chance to have his New York Bagel.

This book is an excellent Multicultural Children's book that exposes children to the idea of different cultures, while also including familiar subjects. The plot talks about a young boy named Yum Yung who desires to taste his first New York Bagel. Yum Yung searches the country for someone who might know where his bagel might be. Eventually a pigeon delivers the secret recipe, and the local workers provide the ingredients to make the bagel. The story invites good conversation relating to community involvement. It also illustrates how different cultures may connect.

Yum Yung lives in a village where the mountains met the sky. He always wanted a New York bagel. He had a vision it was smothered in cream cheese. While dreaming of the New York bagel he realized that Korea and New York was worlds apart. One day he sat on a rock and he wrote a letter to New York that he wanted a bagel. He finally got a bagel from Oh's Heavenly Bakery. ( )

Yum Yung is in love with wanting to eat a bagel, a New York bagel at that! The problem is Yum Yung doesn't have that where she lives. She lives in Korea and send a note to a bird to fly out to New York so they can make a bagel for her. ( )

Yum Yung wants a bagel. A New York bagel, to be precise. How he got this idea, living in Korea (where there are no bagels that he knows of) is a bit of a mystery, but there it is.

So he decides to order in, but in the meantime it takes forever so he asks around. No surprise here, the people he asks are the same ones who has what he needs to MAKE a bagel at the end of the book.

Simple story, fun ending - it could only have been made better with the inclusion of a recipe. ( )
