What do you do when your carefully planned life takes a wrong turn into hell? When Quinn Maguire, a dashing young trauma surgeon, unaccountably accepts a position as an ER physician, her new boss, Honor Blake, suspects that Quinn is hiding a dark secret. While the two declare an uneasy truce in an effort to work together, both struggle with mutual, and unexpected, attraction. Honor, however, has more than one reason to resist her growing feelings for the attractive newcomer--not the least of which is that her heart belongs to the woman whose wedding ring she wears. First book I've read by Radclyffe. Good story to curl up to on a rainy day. ( )

What is truly outstanding is that while the attraction is well written and the chemistry crackles, the emotional binding and build-up is the real star of this book. The entire romance draws us in more emotionally than with the hot chemistry.

So, I've already read so many other books set at the PMC hospital with the characters of Honor and Quinn included that I figured I should actually read the first book that introduces them too.

Honor is the head of the ER at PMC. She is not happy when one of her superiors hires Quinn while she is away. And so, they get off on a very shaky foot. Still, there is (of course) an attraction there too, right from the beginning.

They both have things in their pasts, secrets and such that neither is perfectly at ease with. A medical problem and a previous relationship are the stumbling blocks.

There's also Honor's daughter Arly who was a very cute and cool character. And Phyllis, Arly's grandmother. She was an intriguing character too. And, of course, Linda and Robin were pretty cool (I do believe that I liked Linda very much in previous books I've read with her in them).

It was fun to see all the characters at the beginning of their journeys, since I've seen them in the much newer books. See where they grew from.

And the soccer, holy moly the soccer, there was so much soccer. It was nice. It took me back to both my youth as a player as well as my own short stint as a kiddo (not to mention, while I've never popped a shoulder out, as a keeper I most definitely knew shoulder injuries while a player).

And, ack, as I read this one, I realize that I've missed another that came before also. Passion's Bright Fury. It's sorta like you have to read all of Radclyffe's books at literally the same time. It's awesome. ( )

Another page-turner from Radclyffe. The scenes are vivid, the intense emotions palpable. I've always maintained that the definition of a good book is one that stays with you even when you aren't reading it.This novel truly delivers in that regard. Honor and Quinn are clearly fated for one another from the opening pages, and the draw to follow them on this journey is irresistible. The medical drama adds another interesting edge. Life, love, loss, uncertainty and destiny - it all seems to come down to fate - just as the title implies. The characters are engaging and real. It's also very refreshing to have lesbian families depicted as unremarkable; it's very matter-of-fact, no apologies or explanations. I highly recommend this great escape! ( )
