( ) Every summer, Americans join together to celebrate the birthday of their country. Many families celebrate theFourth of July by having picnics or barbecues or attending Fourth of July parades. In 1607, settler from England built the first permanent English colony in what is now the United States. The thirteen colonies were ruled law King George 3 of England. Finally, the Revolutionary War against Engkand began. George Washington was chosen to lead Continental Aarmy. During the war, American leader Thomas Jefferson prepared a special document that coloies wanted independence- no longer be ruled by England. Eventually the Americans won the war against the British. On July 4 , 1976, the United States celebrated is wo hundredth birthday, or bicentennial. Operation Sail and fire works lit up was part of the US bicentennial celebration in 1976. Independence Day is a day to be thankful for the freedom available to people living in the United States of America.
