?A rich man and a poor man are found dead of gunshot wounds outside a seedy bar on Barrington Street in Halifax. The police declare it a murder-suicide, but bluesman/lawyer Monty Collins hired to represent the victims families suspects it s a double murder. The case gets complicated when the police link the gun to the suspicious death of a high-flying lawyer named Dice Campbell. Full of somewhat gratuitous references to places in Halifax but the story & characters were too dull to keep on reading. I had previously tried one set in Dublin, but couldn't get into that one either.

A rich man and a poor man are found shot to death outside of a strip club. On the surface, it looks like a murder-suicide but Halifax lawyer Monty Collins isn't convinced. Meanwhile, Monty and Maura's attempt at reconciliation takes a disastrous turn. The third book in the Monty Collins series. Maybe not my favourite book in the series in terms of the mystery but, so far, my favourite for the personal aspect. Barrington Street Blues. Anne Emery. 2008. This is the third book Anne Emery has written in the Monty/Brendan series. They are in Halifax, Monty is singing in Brendan’s choir, and he is still separated from his wife. Monty tries to find out if an apparent murder/suicide is actually two murders. He is still trying to reconcile with his wife and is faced with shocking news from her. Several new characters are introduced that I hope re-appear. Mavis, a drunken widow is my favorite. It is not necessary to read Obit, but it would be better to read Sign of the Cross before reading this book. I have really come to love reading about Monty and Brendan. ( )
