From the American Museum of Natural History to the Bronx Zoo, each letter is accompanied by a peppy eight-line poem as well as multiple sidebars, factoids, and tidbits about the sights described. Melmed brilliantly touches on all the major sights of NYC, only cheating a little when X represents the ever-present "TaXi." The book includes an abundance of brightly colored, folk-art-style illustrations, and an excellent map locates each place mentioned. This book is certain to be popular with families traveling to Gotham for the first time.

This book takes the reader on a tour of New York City. Using the alphabet as a guide it highlights several different landmarks and important facts about one of the largest cities in our country. It could be used as a history lesson when talking about the different states or cities and what makes them special. It contains a lot of interesting facts to spark student's interest so it could easily cause a spin off into many different kinds of lessons. I also like how it depicts the many differnt cultures represented in the city. ( )

This is a book of the alphabets but each one corresponds with a famous or popular place in New York City. This book would be good for any young child grades 1-YA because it not "kiddie" at all and even I liked it very much. I also really enjoyed the illustations in this book. There were people of all ethnicities and fun, large illustations I know kids would love. ( )
