Due to her emotionally dysfunctional family and cheating ex, Maddy has built up impenetrable barriers against men and love that slowly begin melting when she meets Jake Wallace, a hunky paramedic who she mistakes for a male escort.

While Jake and Maddy have sizzling chemistry, this cannot compensate for the contrived and predictable plot and the one dimensional characters. Maddy's insecurities quickly begin to grate on the nerves, and sexy, sweet Jake is simply too good to be true. Moreover, the secret keeping goes on for far too long and became annoying as it always does in contemporary romance.

The resolution is pathetically obvious and if this hadn't been free for Kindle, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Nevertheless, it has its moments and could have been a lot worse. ( )
