18-year-old Willie is sorting his grandmother's house after her death the summer before he's due to leave for college; she raised him after the death of his mother but never spoke much about her or his father. It's only reading a bunch of letters his father wrote to his mother over a couple of years when they were first apart and then separating that he feels he comes to know them a little. Perhaps not the most original starting point to a story but engaging nonetheless. ( )
