This essay renews the debate about the futility of deterrence in a post-Cold War era by introducing, as a spiritual problem, the idea of nuclear addiction and how to get out of it. Tallmadge analyzes the Cold War and the dependence on nuclear weapons as a spiritual sickness, analogous to an addiction which serves to maintain malignant narcissism. We suffer the spiritual illness both collectively and individually. He lays out the avenues of healing for us, involving both a choice for Life and responsibility, and taking action for affirmation, truth, hope, and caring healthy relationships to the biosphere and to each other. While dated in its context, this analysis is still relevant to current approaches to war and global politics. Furthermore, reading the pamphlet naturally invites us to apply the analysis of spiritual illness to our current socioeconomic system as it creates environmental and social destruction. This pamphlet has an important topic, with a decent treatment. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
