Celebrated author Linda Cajio unravels a tantalizing tale of a woman desperate to escape reality--and the rugged loner who's all but given up on his dreams. Judith Collier is running away from her life. She needs peace and quiet to focus on a very difficult decision, and except for the distinct lack of any kind of modern amenities, the isolated cove in Baja seems just about perfect. Judith knows that her wealthy and demanding family will never think to look for her in such a secluded spot. But there's one major distraction: The most gorgeous man she has ever encountered lives in this cove. And Judith can't escape from the reality of her physical response to him. Paul Murphy has no interest in babysitting Judith. He came to the remote Baja village to heal from tragedy. Leaving the LAPD after ten years on the job, ending his marriage, and losing contact with his young daughter has left him with a stone-cold heart. And yet, this beautiful stranger just may have the power to shake his foundation to its core--and remind him what it's like to believe in love again. Includes a special message from the editor, as well as excerpts from these Loveswept titles: " Taking Shots, Along Came Trouble, " and "Hell on Wheels." Thank you NetGalley and Loveswept for the A.R.C. that I was allowed to view in exchange for my honest opinion! Typical romance novel falling fast is what you'll find in this book. The misleading cover of the newly released edition makes the reader believe in a beach retreat book, but what she instead is a delightful tale about Judith Collier and Paul Murphy. She, a naive and guileless heiress, finds she is in danger after inheriting a large holding in the family company, Collier Chocolates. He, a jaded ex-cop, finds her innocence alluring and her willingness to get her hands dirty around the ejido a great excuse to jump into an affair. Only slightly ridiculous in language ("Paul's world dissolved like a metal toy plunged into a raging fire"), I found the story to be more realistic once the main characters began delving into one another's pasts instead of one another's pants. They quickly realize that their personal issues can either break them apart or lead them to paradise. Consequently, the concept of the ejido was new to me, so I suppose Paul, Judith, and this reader all gained something new in the tidy, yet sweet romance by Cajio. ( )
