Zoe mostly has it good. Her parents are nice, her brother isn't half bad, and her dog Ella is amazing. But Zoe thinks her life is boring - nothing ever changes. She's stuck in her wheelchair and her parents never let her do anything fun. And it really bugs her that some of the kids think she's not smart just because her body doesn't always do what she wants. Then in the midst of the holiday season, Zoe learns about the diverse cultures of her friends at school, and realizes she's not the only different one in class. While celebrating the traditions of Christmas, Hanukkanh, Kwanzaa, Divali and Eid, she realizes that excitement can arrive in weird and challenging ways. Will Zoe succeed when she needs to take charge for the first time? Or, is having adventures really not as great as she thought?… (más)

Zoe is a sweet young girl with a lot of friends and a caring family. She is smart, funny and has a great personality. What does Zoe worry about? She is in a wheelchair, how will she ever have an adventure? When Zoe hears and sees others having adventures, she starts to feel sorry for herself. She can't run or dance like her friends. Her parents sometimes over-protect her so she feels like she is missing out. When her brother decides to come up with an adventure for her, he plans with her friends to give her a fun and wonderful surprise. In the book Zoe's class learns about holidays from different cultures and she has a diverse group of friends. There are some incidents where she is treated differently and not very nicely due to her wheelchair and they are dealt with in an amazing way. One of the great characters in the story is Emma, her service dog. We really get to know her, her role and her place in the family well.

This is a great book that deals with several ideas. It could be used when learning about holidays, studying the seasons, learning about friendship or your bodies. It can definitely be used when studying acceptance of others that have differences. There are not illustrations in this book, which was a little disappointing especially after the bright, beautiful cover. I would definitely recommend this book to be in all school libraries and primary/junior classes.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. ( )
