Just as the title indicates, this is an anthology of science fiction firsts, with annotations by Asimov for each. The restrictive premise means that many of the stories are not of first quality, simply the first in whatever category they are presented in, but the collection is of historical interest, and many of the stories do hold up surprisingly well. Categories include Antimatter, Cosmic Disaster, Home Computers, and Overpopulation among others. I am a little surprised not to see Time Travel as a category. The oldest story is from 1839, and an Asimov story is included. ( )
