What an awesome book to read as spring days are coming! The reader learns the history behind baseball, top players and teams, baseball vocabulary, even fantasy baseball team how-to’s and strategies, along with riddles and games interspersed within the pages! ( )

I like this book for a few reasons. It includes many illustrations and diagrams to help children learn about baseball. Also, the language is child-friendly and uses smaller words. The big idea is to show children that baseball can be interesting. ( )

In my opinion this is a great informational book! Greg Jacobs uses such descriptive language when discussing baseball history, games, players and more! For example, on page 12 Jacobs describes the game of two-ball so well that anyone who reads it would become an expert on the game. He tells the reader how to divide the players, what each player should do, and how to play the game.

Another reason I really enjoyed this books is that Greg Jacobs writes in such an organized and engaging manner. All of the ideas and thoughts throughout the story really flow well together. Instead of just telling the facts, Jacobs makes the information interesting by sharing the players nicknames, fun facts, and statistics. On page 44, Jacobs talks about Walter Johnson. He gives facts such as his nickname was "The Big Train", he won MVP on a couple of occasions, and was one of the first five players selected to the hall of fame in 1936. Facts like these help keep children interested in what they are reading compared to traditional facts such as birth, career, and death.
The big idea behind this book was to share fun and interesting information about baseball with the hopes that it sparks an interest of a child. ( )

A great way to involve kids that are only interested in sports! They will probably read this.
