This follow-up to Inside a Barn in the Country is another animal story told in the classic "This Is the House that Jack Built" format. Commuting zoo animals have a calling tree of sorts to help everyone get to work on time.

I chose this book because it has zoo animals in it and I love animals. For this book, I would have my students write what animal they would want to wake them up and why. ( )

Summary:
This is a great read aloud book. It takes place in a zoo inside the city and how each animal wakes up a different animal. For example when a squawking parrot wakes a stalking tiger and so on. It repeats the beginning each page and adds a new line that rhymes.

Personal Reaction:
I thought it was a cute book to teach kids about the noises of animals or what each animal does. The illustrations were funny and went along great with the story.

Clasrrom Extension:
1. Have each kid write their own rhymes about animals.

2. Read aloud with the class and have them read along also as a group. ( )
