Deneys Cazet tells a Halloween story of a old grumpy man, Mr. Wilkerson, who loves pumpkin pie. When he dies unexpedtedly, his wife buries him in the pumpkin patch and move away. An old lady and her grandson move in only to be haunted by the ghost of Mr. Wilkerson to make the perfect pumpkin pie. The illustrations are colorful and the story is quite funny. I would use it at Halloween for grades K - 3. ( ) Perhaps a bit creepy for very young children, but I have a particularly macabre 5 year old and she loves it. The illustrations remind me of picture book-style versions of Stephen Gammell's from the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. Recommended for those looking for a less-traditional Halloween tale for kids. This is a great story with a fun rhyming "chorus": "Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkin pie!/ I must have one before I die./ It must be round/ and brown as toast,/or I'll haunt this house/ a hungry ghost!" It's repeated throughout the text and would be great fun at a storytime. The illustrations are a bit of grotesquerie, but that's part of the charm of the book, I think. Really enjoyable. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
