Megan Hoffman was desperate to keep her past hidden. She'd moved to a small town, started a new job and changed her name. A fresh start couldn't erase the danger she'd left behind. Or heal the scars fear had branded on her soul. But she was making it, one day at a time. Until Jack Calhoun moved in next door. The crack reporter had an instinct for rooting out lies--and an overprotective urge honed as a single dad. Some wounds are harder to heal from than others, and I was attracted to Beth Cornelison’s Danger at her Door particularly because I wanted to see how she would portray her protagonist. Megan Hoffman is a young woman who has changed home and identity in an effort to recover from past trauma, and I found her pain and reactions completely believable right from the start. Her attacker is still free, and Megan hides away, mistaking privacy for healing.

The single father with the precocious little daughter reminds Megan of all that she’s missing. But how can she trust him when he’s a reporter, already researching her case? And how can he trust her when he’s been hurt before?

Just as Megan and Jack take those first small steps towards healing and love, danger tears them apart. And the author proves herself a master of suspense, as well as of characterization. The side characters—Jack’s daughter, Megan’s dog and her dear friend Ginny, propel the story forwards. And a beautiful love scene fills it with heart and hope.

Danger at her Door is a truly enjoyable romantic suspense, and an insightful glimpse into trauma and recovery. ( )

In hind sight i would not select a book with a history of sexual violence towards women as part of the underlying theme. I think the author did an excellent job of being sensitive to the subject matter.

However, it was very difficult for me to read about her challenges. ( )
