It's 35 chapters long and I gave up on chapter 16. Somewhere within the rambling passages is a good story, but thus far all I came across are the hopelessly tiresome string of characters who know what's going on but refuse to tell what it is, yet still expect the protagonist to solve their problems. Such characters deserve the worst. It's quite racist, which some will 'excuse' as a product of its time, but I think even back then people should have known better. Sax Rohmer was the pseudonym used by Arthur Henry Sarsfield Ward. Ward was a British novelist born in 1883. He is most remembered for his series of novels featuring the master criminal Dr Fu Manchu. Other works include: The Sins of Severac Bablon (1914), The Yellow Claw (1915), The Devil Doctor (1916), The Hand of Fu-Manchu (1917), Brood of the Witch-Queen (1918), Dope (1919) and Bat Wing (1921). Bat Wing was published in 1921. A Spanish colonel and a dark secret make up the plot. Detective Paul Harvey and his trusted sidekick are brought in to solve the mystery, which includes voodoo rites, vampire bats, an Edgar Allen Poe-esque writer, and other bizarre developments.
