Ja, het gaat over een blind vrouwelijk persoon in metrostations die avonturen beleeft.

En het is zoveel méér:

Het is een zoektocht, letterlijk: de persoon zoekt gezelschap, zoekt haar verloren paraplu. Het is ook een zoektocht naar hoe om te gaan met niet kunnen zien. Tegelijkertijd zien de meeste lezers volle bontgekleurde en toch rustige tekeningen waar vaste elementen terugkomen, steeds weer anders waardoor ik ging zoeken naar hoe alles is afgebeeld: De wanden, de metro met inzittenden, het hondje. Elke keer weer ben jij ook benieuwd welke wereld de dame ziet als ze op de volgende bladzijde het metrostation uit zal stappen.
Er is tekst, vier betekenisvolle regels bij elke plaat waar je dus even bij stil kunt staan terwijl de vrouw maar voort gaat.
Er zijn verwachtingen en verrassingen. Tegenstellingen en herhalingen. Het gaat over verlangen, kwetsbaarheid, hoop, verbeelding, zoeken en ontdekkingen.
Het is mooi.

'Het is laat in de middag.
De toren werpt zijn schaduw naar de deur
waarachter ik alle herinneringen
uit mijn kindertijd bewaar.'

Ik viel voor de titel van het boek. Bij een blauwe plaat vol met verlichte kleine flesjes:
'Nu luister ik naar de klank
van kleuren die ik niet kan zien.
Ik probeer de vormen te ruiken'
Het licht en donker te proeven.

Op een druk station:
'Treinen dreunen, rammelen en razen voorbij
Welke is de juiste? Het is gemakkelijk verdwalen in de ondergrondse.'

Het is een boek voor vele leeftijden, een boek met lagen. Feelgood, literatuur en jeugd zou allemaal kunnen. En waar hoort eenvoudige filosofie? Want waarom raakt ze haar paraplu kwijt, heeft ze die nog wel nodig? Ervaart ze de druilerigheid nog wel?

Het is verleidelijk om nog veel meer te citeren.

This story is about a little girl who is blind but she shows that she does not let that stop her from seeing the world. She uses her imagination to depict everything she wants to see as she get off of each train. Whether it be good or bad she sees it and its very lovely to know that she does this. She even says how she uses her other senses to depict images in her head and i think its wonderful how she shows that she does this and does not let the fact that she is blind stop her from adventuring in life. In whatever way she chooses that to be. ( )

A GORGEOUSLY illustrated book, full of profound wisdom. The Sound of Colors is about a girl who lost her vision and takes on a journey to find a way to enjoy this beautiful world through her other senses by "smelling the shapes", and "tasting the light and the dark". The author chooses a subway as the setting. I think, it is a metaphor of being in a sea of people that a different than you, while you are trying to find your path. The main character is also looking for a friend to share her hopes and dreams with, and who can share theirs; who can help to see the colors of the world. "Home is the place where everything I've lost is waiting patiently for me to find my way back" really stood out to me. Perhaps, it means that one can find all the answers within. This book really made me wonder how would it be if I lost my vision; that is a terrifying thought. We forget HOW BLESSED we are now, and how little we really need. An amazing book. ( )

Experiencing a young girls journey through the subway system and her adventurous stops bring a sense of what it is to be blind, along with its advantages and struggles. The advantages are seeing the world in a new way, through imagination and senses. The book, while a great read, is sad to me because I feel the girl is longing for her eyesight back. The sentence, " Home is the place where everything I've lost is patiently waiting for me to find my way back." really struck me because it indicates how much she has lost by losing her eyesight. The illustrations engage the reader as you can see the world the way the young girl imagines it. I think this is a great book for children to experience the world a blind child lives in and bring a sense of loss to the reality of being blind. ( )
