Tantamount to wading through a mountain of research notes to be used for a graduate thesis. All of the information one would desire/require is available, but the ability to synthesize, prioritize, and present a compelling tale was sorely lacking. A torrent of names and places, but...exhausting. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths leads the reader through the vibrant stories of ancient Greece, from the origins of the gods through to the homecomings of the Trojan heroes. All the familiar narratives are here, along with some less familiar characters and motifs. In addition to the tales, the book explains key issues arising from the narratives and discusses the myths and their wider relevance. This long-overdue book crystallizes three key areas of interest: the nature of the tales; the stories themselves; and how they have and might be interpreted. For the first time, it brings together aspects of Greek mythology only usually available in disparate forms -- namely children's books and academic works. The first half of the book is good. But somehow, it went downhill towards the end. Personally, I also didn’t like the notes being written at the back of the book. I was constantly flipping the book just so I could read the notes better.
However, I think this is still a good book if you are interested in Greek Mythology. I’ve read plenty of stories in here that I haven’t heard before. The author also made comparisons of stories of different writers, even the different film adaptations were mentioned in this book. ( )
