An introduction to the life of Hildegard of Bingen, who lived in a time when women were expected only to obey--not to have visions or speak about them. Yet she did speak, and through her courage became one of the greatest mystics and composers of the medieval age.

A very interesting book about an important women named Hildegard. She was a scientist, musician, and a writer all of which are the many gifts that god has given her. She lives during a time when women were not allowed to speak or to learn anything new other than becoming a housewife. She often had many thoughts that wanted to come out of her, but she knew women were supposed to keep quiet so she did. I liked how this story was told through her perspective and what she went through at that time. It gave more of an insight of how she may have felt or what she was going through. ( )

This is a picture book biography of Hildegarde of Bingen, a young girl with unwieldy intellectual gifts and musical genius, living in the middle ages when girls were not expected to study and learn and become anything other than a housewife, laborer or nun.SImple told, this story captures the brilliance that Hildegarde was not sure how to deal with until she found herself mentored at a convent where she was allowed to deepen her studies of science, music, nature and literature and share those gifts with others. The style of the jewel-toned illustrations echo the illuminated manuscripts, tone of the main art forms of the day. Mother and son created this engaging biography, as well as a number of other excellent picture book biographies of Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Dizzy Gillespie and Georgia O'Keefe, among others. ( )

An interesting book about an important woman in history. She made significant contributions to science, medicine and multiple books which she said were given to her by God. I enjoyed the story but I wish that the book had focused more on the "divine manifestation" of the books and more on her accomplishments and how her work has helped others. ( )
