Wanted to read this after watching the Hallmark series "The Gourmet Detective" and seeing it was based on the books by this author. Hmmmm. He's a food detective, in that he helps restaurants figure out how to be successful. He does get caught up investigating a rivalary and a murder and does meet a woman detective. But it's endless "foodie talk." ( )

A little slow at the beginning but it picked up. Interesting information about wines and food. ( )

I put this down at about page 59, which is just shy of 25% of the number pages in the book. I try to stick to my choice of giving a book 50 pages to capture me and this one just didn't.

It's not that there was anything wrong with the characters or the writing; it's just that nothing interesting happened. It's a murder mystery. There was no murder (yet), no obvious murder-ee (yet), no reason for a murder to occur (yet), no nothing to hold my interest any further.

Life's too short to slog through books in the hope that they will be worth it. This one might have been worth it, but I wasn't willing to take the chance. ( )
