Science Fiction Review: Rolie and his sister get snow at their house for the first time, and they build a snowman. The sun comes back and they take their new friend to a place where he will be safe from the heat. Critique: This is a good science fiction because it is about robots with human actions and feelings. It is also a good science fiction because students can see how to treat their friends. My second and last attempt to appreciate this character. I can imagine the appeal to others, but I'm pretty sure neither I nor my children would have liked these even when the boys were little. Not bad, just 'meh.' I do think they'd work better as little chunky board books. The pictures are certainly bright enough, and the stories simple enough, and the intended audience young enough, to fit that medium. I enjoyed reading the book “Snowie Rolie”. One aspect I liked about this book was the plot. It would be entertaining for children. “Then one bright morning, the sun that shone on Olie’s world blew a blub and it started to snow!” I liked the concept of how the light blew a blub so it got colder and was able to snow. As Olie and Zowie play in the snow throughout the day the sun ends up getting his new light bulb. As the snow melted, they got a present that reminded them of their snowy adventure. Olie and Zowie got left a snow globe that had them and their snowman they made in it. Another aspect that I liked was the illustrations. The illustrations took up the entire page. They were also colored in bright colors which make them appealing to look at. The big idea of this story is to enjoy every day no matter what the weather is like. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

This being a happy upbeat robot-world, the answer to both of these questions is yes, of course, but fans of Rolie Polie Olie will still enjoy following along for the adventure. Unlike its predecessor, Snowie Rolie isn't told in rhyme, although the narrative still has a bouncy feeling to it. The artwork is bright and colorful, complementing and enhancing the text. Although these Rolie Polie Olie books aren't my personal favorite, of author/artist William Joyce's work - I prefer the Guardians of Childhood series, and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore - they are still good fun, especially for young robot lovers. It is to such young children that I would recommend this one, as well as its companions. ( )
