This fantasy book shows dinosaurs battling it out on the hockey field. Meat eaters vs. veggie eaters. (Though they don't actually eat each other). "Toothy fans shouted go, go, go!" Veggie eaters won. Next up is soccer. Who will win? ( )

This playful rhyming text is popular among my students. I can see why. It mixes sports and dinosaurs, two topics that kids gravitate towards. Overall, the book basically announces the game in rhyming quatrains. Fun. Simple. Good for the right crowd. ( )

Wheeler has combined two of young boys’ favorite interests, sports and dinosaurs, in this book perfect for reluctant readers. Told in rhyming couplets, the story is fast-paced and humorous as well as somewhat educational. Many dinosaur species are featured and their names are typed in their team colors to differentiate between the carnivores and herbivores. There are also many hockey terms used for those interested in the sport. Children who are not hockey fans may not know the definition of every term but the illustrations show the reader the meaning of the text. Gott’s bold digital art is detailed and exciting. This great read aloud ends by hinting at a soccer sequel which will please its fans. ( )
