I listened to the audiobook which Random House gave as a freebie. ( )

A mysterious turkey is on the loose and Nate the Great refuses the case, or at least that is what he claims. Will Nate find the turkey first, or will his cousin swoop in to save the day? This realistic fiction is appropriate for intermediate readers. ( )

Personal Response:

I really didn't think this was that great of a story. I understand that it is geared towards younger readers, where the focus is more on learning how to read, however, this story just goes around in circles and is poorly written. I know a lot of kids like reading these books, so they are serving the purpose of getting kids reading, but the librarian in me would like to see them reading something better.

Classroom/Library Uses:

Nate the Great books are excellent for teachers to use when doing mystery units. At a public library, it would be fun to have a Nate the Great night where children dress like Nate the Great and eat pancakes! ( )
