Picking up were WD Davies left off, Sanders goes back to a historical understanding of 1st Century Judaism so we can better understand Paul in the context of the the theology of his day.

This is not an easy book, in that Sanders addresses issues that are deep in the heart of the academic study of the Bible. DO NOT BUY THIS if all you want to do is get more information for a Sunday School class. But it is well written, even if you have to have some back ground to understand why what he says is important.

If you are really interested in Paul, this book is a must. ( )
