Independent reading level: K-2 Honestly, I was not impressed with this book because there is not much of a plot and I am pretty sure a lot of the information isn't true. However, what it did well was bring a legend, like Babe Ruth, and made it similar to a child. It talked about how Babe Ruth was too a child playing on a dirt field. It would be a great book for children who are learning about baseball or Babe Ruth but it wouldn't be the first book I hand them. I could see myself reading this book as a just-for-fun book or to give background knowledge on a certain upcoming subject (if we learned about baseball or sports celebrities). Media: Oils on Canvas I loved this book. As a huge baseball fan I could read this book everyday. This book really tells about "Babe" making a difference in baseball. Of course he made a difference by setting tons of records, but he also made a difference by being a hero to millions of children. Babe Ruth was an amazing player, arguably one of the best of all time and he made many children want to work hard to be just like him. After his many amazing seasons it is easy to see that Babe Ruth made a difference in the game of baseball. Summary: Home Run is a book about Babe Ruth’s baseball career. It talks about how Babe knew how to swing his bat and hit homeruns all the time. It says from the time he was a young boy up to his baseball career he was an amazing hitter. It tells the reader about how Babe Ruth was looked up to as a baseball player. Personal Reaction: I did not like this book. I am a baseball fan, but this book was really boring and repetitive. It just kept saying how great of a hitter he was. Every page in the book mentioned it. I personally would pick a different book about baseball to read to my students or my own children. Classroom Extension Ideas: 1.I could use this book in a unit about baseball. We could talk about who Babe Ruth was and what he did in baseball. Then I would have the class pick their favorite sports player and write about why the person they picked is their favorite sports player. We would share them with the class. 2.I would use this book in a unit about Biographies. I would read the book so the students could get a better idea on what a biography is. I would then have the students write a biography about themselves. This incredible illustrated picture book biography of Babe Ruth will fascinate even children who are not baseball fans! The sidebars reveal wonderful information about the time period and drives the reader to almost experience the game. Robert Burleigh and Mike Wimmer are amazing together and made me want to find more of their works. Classroom Use: Find baseball cards, old newspapers, newsreels of Babe Ruth and share them with the class. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
