Nick wants a brother or sister, but his parents get him a puppy. As much as he likes his new pet, Nick keeps wishing Aleasha were human, his sister...and so does Aleasha, with humorous results. Fun story, great illustrations. ( )

My favorite part of this book was that it was narrated by the puppy. This does not usually occur in chapter books which made it much more interesting for the reader. The author also surprised readers with the context of the book. Many people would never expect to read about a puppy transforming into a human. However, the author was able to attract readers by taking us through the process of a puppy being able to see color, grow toes and fingers, and walk on two legs. I believe that this book would attract the interest of many young readers. This book teaches readers about perseverance. Even as the transformation became tough for the puppy, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a human. She proved to be brave as she faced the real world and ignored people who judged her abnormal appearance and actions. Teaching students about perseverance is very important.

Summary: A family decided to buy a puppy. After taking the puppy home, they realized how hard it was to take care of a puppy. The puppy did not understand that it was not human. Therefore, the puppy was determined to grow into a human. The puppy first was able to talk, then started walking on two legs and grew fingers and toes. However, the puppy/human could not leave the house for fear that people would find out about her. The boy in the family was very excited that he was finally going to be getting a sister instead of a puppy that ruined his toys. As the dog transformed into a human, she was able to begin to understand everything in the real world. After she finished his transformation, she was surprised that she never stopped at smelling love. ( )
