An interesting and mostly engaging account of the reign and abdication of Mary Queen of Scots. Some characters are very well developed (Lethington for example), while others fall flat. The motivations of the various lords and their alliances, double-crossings, and triple-crossings can be tedious to follow. Because the country was in such turmoil, history repeated itself constantly during Mary's reign. With the story clocking in at 606 pages, this repetition does bog the story down.
