The book is told in the unseen POV and is a flashback to a time where he wasn't even conceived but we see how his mother (a prostitute) became pregnant (rape). It's not particularly graphic in violence but it does have the gritty grindhouse feel when it comes to the sexual descriptions of the prostitute and her johns. There is rape but it isn't really even described in detail. The point of the story was to show how this unseen narrator comes to be and to set up the premise for the future books in the series.
We get a lot of allusions to the future of the series and a bit more backstory when the narrator mentions things from his childhood regarding his relationship with his mother. However, it is a quick read that is the kickoff for future and more disturbing sequences in his life. It was an ok read, but I realized that is is only the very first book in a serial and I shouldn’t really review it as I would an individual book.
Fortunatly, it’s a Kindle Unlimited and took almost no time to get through so even had it been awful (which it wasn’t) I wasn’t out time or money in the reading but I was wheted for the future books, which I guess was the point.
