Fans of SNL from years past may remember the sketch Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey. That reminds me of this...which is essentially a string of bland, therapy-speak affirmations atrung together. There's no plot and no point. Boring, trite, banal. No idea who this book was written for, but it's clearly not for me. I love children's lit, but there's far better and more interesting stuff out there. ( ) Charlie Macksey's 2009 children's book which became something of a social media hit was painstakingly made into a beautiful animated short film. As Macksey's says in his introduction 'this is the book of the film we made' So the differences between the original story and the film are reflected here - the story is given more of a structure and Macksey's deceptively simply drawings are replaced by the animated images seen on screen. Which is better? As an adult I would say read the original and watch the film. But I imagine children who come to the story via the animated film will love this full-colour retelling. My sister bought my daughter this for Christmas, so I couldn't help picking it up yesterday given all the hype. My verdict (without sounding too Scrooge-like) is that this is indeed a book of hype. Yes, the illustrations are lovely and it's a nice message, but it all felt a little bit contrived, like jumping on the 'be kind' bandwagon that seems so popular these days (I've always thought it's good to be kind, not because. bunch of influencers are now hash-tagging it on Instagram). If you haven't yet read it, I can save you the money by summing the message up as you are enough as you are, you're not the only one who has hard stuff to deal with and home where love and friendship are. Well done, Charley. You hit the money train with this at just the right time. 3 stars - cute but forgettable. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
