After five unsuccessful Seasons on the marriage mart, Miss Adelaide Duveen has resigned herself to the notion that she's destined to remain a spinster forever-a rather dismal prospect, but one that will allow her to concentrate on her darling cats and books. However, when she inadvertently stumbles upon Mr. Gideon Abbott engaged in a clandestine activity during a dinner party, Adelaide finds herself thrust into a world of intrigue that resembles the plots in the spy novels she devours. Former intelligence agent Gideon Abbott feels responsible for Adelaide after society threatens to banish her because of the distraction she caused to save his case. Hoping to return the favor, he turns to a good friend-and one of high society's leaders-to take Adelaide in hand and turn her fashionable. When danger surrounds them and Adelaide finds herself a target of the criminals in Gideon's case, the spark of love between them threatens to be quenched for good-along with their lives.… (más)

I loved all the humor in this wonderful historical, romantic fiction novel. I love that Adelaide and Gideon are so compatible. I love that this book made me happy. I always know that I will get a good laugh when I read a book by this author. I would love to have the energy that Adelaide shows throughout this story. I could not put this book down. ( )

Jen Turano pens another great novel! Not only is it full of quirky humor, but there is some intrigue that leads to interesting events.

The characters are fabulous! I love Adelaide! She's quirky, walks to her own beat, and is inquisitive! Even though she suffers through a series of mishaps, she keeps putting herself out in society. Gideon is swoon worthy! He's a protector, humble and courageous! The secondary characters are written just as brilliantly! Leopold and Vernon are my favorites! They are always ready for action!

I like the theme of staying true to yourself. Adelaide never faltered from her dreams and goals. She is tenacious but in a good way!

All in all, a definite must-read! I look forward to reading more of this series!

I was provided a copy of the book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ( )

Jen Turano’s To Spark a Match is a delightful story in which neither want to marry but find themselves drawn together all the same. The troubles they each and both find offer wonderful ways for them to get to know each other. It took some time to read as the majority of the book was dialogue, little time was spent in the character’s heads. ( )

Once again I was delighted with the author’s ability to write a story that delivers funny moments and a bit of faith. It is easy to laugh along with Adelaide as she ponders her place in society. She is just fine reading books and lavishing on her adorable cats. Her embarrassing moment at the beginning of the book sets the stage for an adventure I won’t soon forget. Why does someone dear to her think she needs to wear a wig to get gentlemen’s attention? Well she will have nothing to do with that silly notion. Reading books is where she was most comfortable doing. Trying to get a husband is not something she is focused on.

Gideon sure knows how to surprise someone. Adelaide is trying to find a place to hide from the dinner party and decides the library is the perfect place. Who does she run into? Well it is Gideon hiding behind the curtains. Now why is he hiding and what is he up to? He is not really ready to explain himself as he tries different methods of distractions to get Adelaide out of the library, but I think she sees right through his ploy. What is discovered behind the couch that has both of them nervous?

The two team up which puts Adelaide in a position where society turns against her and banishes her. Gideon feels responsible and wants to help her return to society as a woman men would fight over to get her attention. I did laugh as Adelaide wants to help Gideon in his secret mission. She even tell him that she “will pinky swear” not to tell anyone what is going on. The mystery is fun to follow and there are several other characters who add to the story.

With a makeover, mystery, secrets, guns and a spark of romance this is a delightful story from an author who always delivers an entertaining adventure. I loved feeling as if I was part of the story and loved the ending. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy this new book by an author gifted in storytelling.

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The review is my own opinion. ( )

I truly enjoyed getting to know Jen Turano’s charming, unforgettable characters in her funny historical fiction novel. Jen is a master at writing humorous historical fiction with endearing, memorable characters that try to solve a mystery. I enjoyed a splash of romance. I love how the author makes me laugh out loud while reading, a trait that makes me want to curl up with this entertaining book and enter this magical world the author has created.

Adelaide had a few quirks that the wealthy people of New York society didn’t find funny, but she immediately gained my admiration when she pulled a book out of her handbag at a party. Adelaide is clearly a voracious reader and wants everyone, even the cats she seems to be acquiring, to get along. Her calm personality and gentle disposition truly charmed me. In case you are not familiar with this author I highly recommend her novels. Be sure to add them to your TBR and book club pick list.

If strolling through the drawing room with the hem of her gown trapped in the folds of her bustle, giving the two hundred upper-drawer society members attending Mrs. Ogden Nelson's intimate dinner party an unfettered view of her drawers, was a precursor of things to come during the approaching New York Season, then Miss Adelaide Duveen was now of the belief she should abandon her quest—or rather, her mother's quest—of acquiring one of those oh-so-coveted society matches and simply embrace her spinster state for the rest of her days.
