Interesting idea, but was very tiresome to read trying to differentiate all the Tony's with typography (ALL CAPS) or attempts to use phonetic spelling to convey accents. Not for me. ( )

Terrific short story. Like a little reunion from always fabulous author Lisa Scottoline. One man resolves to put an end to a crime wave in his city, no matter the cost – and that man is none other than Pigeon Tony, one of “The Tonys.” Pigeon Tony Lucia, Tony “Two Feet” Pensiera, Tony “From-Down-The-Block” LoMonaco, and Mariano “Matty” DiNunzio, the one who is always SHOUTING because he never wears his hearing aids. He’s also Mary’s father. Yes, that Mary, from the Rosato & Associates and Rosato & DiNunzio series. The Tonys are unconventional heroes. Not supermen, but no shortage of integrity, tenacity, dignity, and honesty. They know Mary is a brilliant lawyer and come to her when they see a wrong that needs righting and need her legal advice. Mary always tries to calm them down when they come to her office, but she is called Mary and not Violet for a reason. She is not of the shrinking variety. Mary has quite a temper and doesn’t hesitate to stand up and shout herself if there is an injustice that needs to be fixed.

A local drug dealer is trying to force Pigeon Tony’s young neighbor to work for him. The Tonys won’t stand for it. Neither will Mary. And neither will everyone else in the neighborhood. It’s a fun story about a serious topic. The solution the Tonys and Mary come up with is priceless and perfect.

I miss Bennie and Mary and The Tonys and can’t wait for the next book in the series. But Pigeon Tony’s Last Stand will more than satisfy in the meantime. All opinions are my own. ( )
