I enjoyed reading the various rhymes in the text "Finger Rhymes" by Marc Brown for three reasons. First, I enjoyed reading this text because when you first open the book there is a contents page. This is something you would find in a chapter book to help the reader find various parts of the text. This was a helpful tool to use so I could look for a particular rhyme (ex: There Was a Little Turtle page 4, Grandma's Spectacles page 7, Five Little Pigs page 8 and so on). Second, on each page there were detailed sequences of hand and finger movements to do while reading the rhyme. I think this was an interesting addition and made reading more appealing (ex: in the text The Five Little Pigs you would point to your thumb while saying " This little pig went to the market", then you would point to your index finger and say "This little pig stayed home", this would continue until you use every finger on your hand and until the end of the rhyme). Third, the illustrations were drawm in black and white. I found this to be a unique idea for a children's rhyming book (ex: in the story of "The Five Little Mice" the mice were drawn in black and whit and were jumping of the kitchen counter to escape the cat). "Finger Rhymes" is a text with various rhymes and instructions for children to use their fingers while reading along. This text includes various popular rhymes, such as, eensy weensy spider, sleepy fingers, and etc. The message of this book is for it to be a fun text for children to use when learning various rhymes and to use their fingers along the way!
