Great little history of pizza and a solid explanation of how this dish spread, including via immigration to the United States, word of mouth after WWII, and some hyping up from Queen Margherita. It was also very enjoyable to see all the different ways people across the world enjoy and personalize their own pizza pies. Wonderful non-fic pick for a young foodie (or really just anyone who likes pizza). ( )

I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles as a child, so I was going to love this book about the history of pizza no matter what, but I can say that in addition to making me hungry, I like the way it shows the ways our foods reflect our history and the way cultures bump into each other.

Yay pizza! Greg Pizzoli never disappoints and this time he's writing about a favorite topic of mine. Fun, whimsical artwork paired with the real history of pizza makes this a yummy treat of a read. ( )

Colors pop in this limited color palette (red, white, green, yellow) that echoes the colors of the Italian flag and, of course, the ingredients of Pizza Margherita (named for a queen who received the first pizza delivery). Packed with facts, perfectly paced, lively and delicious and occasionally surprising (tomatoes do NOT come from Italy, but likely from Peru), this is a nonfiction picture book at its best! ( )
