An interesting foray into the 1960s featuring people with powers and two reluctant heroines just trying to the do the jobs they were given. One is a governmental agent coming realize that her job may not be as benevolent as she once thought. The other is trying to be better than the way she was raised. A shared history stands between the two women as they flee across country in an effort to save a little girl's life from people would use the child as a weapon and for their own aims. Together, when they get along, they make a great team.
Be aware when going into this book that there is period appropriate racism (it is 1963 after all). Surprisingly, there's very little sexism, though one character is pretty vicious when he does show up. No one blinks at the idea of two women kissing either, which is refreshing. I love AU. ( )
