Dorothea Lange is beroemd geworden als een van de fotografen voor de FSA (Farm Security Administration) samen met oa. Walker Evans in de jaren dertig. Haar doel was om begrip (en geld) op te brengen voor de mensen die in armoede leefde in Amerika in de depressiejaren.
Dit boek geeft naast een lange inleiding (***) een overzicht van de foto's van Dorothea Lange. Haar foto's zijn niet te beschouwen als klassieke kunstwerken maar meer als directe interpretatie van wat zij meemaakte. Niet superieur, wel indrukwekkend. (
