Els gossos guies i la I Guerra mundial ( ) Another one hit out of the park by Hlad. Both a tragic and a sweet story. The horrors of WWI, woven about with a love story, and the amazing German shepherd guide dogs. This one takes place in Germany, which is somewhat unique, in that most 20th Century English-language war stories are set in England or France. Graphic war descriptions in parts, several premarital relationships, and an unusual amount of a single woman spending time alone with a man for the time period. But, beautifully done, and wonderful. Highly recommend, not only to read, but to keep a place of honor on your bookshelf. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I decided to read this book when I saw it was a WWI read, and involved dogs. Then it puts faces and people that I soon cared about, but would have been the enemy. Most of this story takes place in the German Empire, and we are walking with Nurse/Trainer Anna Zeller, and fate puts her with severely injured and blinded gifted Max Benesch. This was a page turner, I was so involved in what was happening, and how it would all turn out, and the author does a great job of bring this read to a conclusion. You might want the tissues handy! In the end who really wins in war? I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review. Set in Germany during WWI, this is the story of a woman who, starting out in nursing, switches to working at a newly-formed school for training guide dogs for the blind. She meets a gassed, blinded soldier who is billeted in her home, and romance blossoms as she becomes his trainer. The soldier, a talented pianist, is encouraged by her to continue playing and composing. I found this book to be a real tear-jerker, as much for the story of the soldier as that of his guide dog, who was used and injured in the trenches before becoming a guide dog. It was also an informative book on both the beginnings of guide dog schools and the use of chemical warfare and the manufacture of those chemicals during WWI. This book is another winner from Alan Hlad. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
