Tolkien is a lovingly illustrated book aimed at young children to provide an introduction to Tolkien. It provides you with the essentials of his life and work and is certainly a great book to read out. Unfortunately, I will have to ask you to absolutely ignore the two pages at the end of the book providing a summary on Tolkien’s life and works due to a rather large number of mistakes and misrepresentations that are surprisingly at odds with the rest of the book. This is a lovely beginning biography of the father of modern fantasy. All the main points of his young childhood are hit: growing up, losing parents, getting married, going to war, etc. My favorite part of this book happens to be the illustrations. They portray the real person and his fantasy life in a very wonderful way. A stand out addition in this long running series. Little People, BIG DREAMS. One of a series for adults to read to children and for ESL to polish their English and learn about people who have shaped their world. This time the featured person is the imaginative author of the Lord Of The Rings. Born in South Africa and the living in the countryside in England, he was so disappointed when he was moved to an industrial city. He was fascinated by the workings of languages and used that in his works. The illustrations by Aaron Cushley are mostly simple and forthright. Every public and school library needs a copy! I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"Little John experienced lots of change in his life from a young age. Moving from South Africa to a big city in England, he longed for the nature he grew up around. After the death of both of his parents, John found comfort in telling stories and building imaginary worlds with his friends. And he continued to tell stories for the rest of his life, creating epic tales of hobbits, dwarves, elves, and wizards as J. R. R. Tolkien." -- Amazon.com.

This book is a short pictorial biography that follows the life and dreams of author J.R.R Tolkien and the magic behind his stories.
This book is from a series of biographical books which I think would be so beneficial in a younger classroom for history lessons or read-aloud.
