Pretty cute story about a little girl and her toy kangaroo, with especially cute illustrations! ( )
  dukefan86 | May 29, 2013 |
Summary: Lily is a little girl who takes Blue Kangaroo, her favorite stuffed animal, everywhere she goes. Lily often gets into trouble, and blamed Blue Kangaroo for what happened. Lily makes the kitchen sink overflow, dresses her cat up in baby clothes, takes toys away from her little brother, and throws clothes out her window. Since Lilly keeps blaming Blue Kangaroo, Lilly's mother decides to take Blue Kangaroo away until he learns how to behave. Lilly is very sad, and Blue Kangaroo is very alone. In the middle of the night, Blue Kangaroo draws a picture with the note "sorry" on a piece of paper and slides it under Lilly's mother's door. In the morning, Lilly gets Blue Kangaroo back, and she apologizes to him for always blaming him.

Genre Critique: This is a good example of a fantasy, because there are elements in the story that could not happen in the real world. Blue Kangaroo, one of Lilly's stuffed animals, is able to think, hop, and draw. Even though this part of the story cannot be true, children will be able to relate to the idea of blaming others for what they have done before they realize that they should take ownership for their own faults. The context of this story is believable, as it takes place in a house with her mother and little brother.

It Was You, Blue Kangaroo is the story about a girl named Lily and her blue kangaroo toy. Anytime that Lily would do something that would get her in trouble she would say, "it was you, Blue Kangaroo!" and the kangaroo would say nothing and stare at Lily. Lily gave her dolls a bath in the sink and when the sink overflowed she blamed it on Blue Kangaroo. The same can be said when she dressed the cat up and the cat wiggled out of her arms and crashed into the curtains, knocking things over. Lily took a sand bucket away from her brother and shoved it on his head and again blamed Blue Kangaroo. Lily decided to throw all of her clothes out the window, which hit her aunt. Once, again she blamed Blue Kangaroo, but this time her mother placed the kangaroo out of reach and said that since he couldn't behave he had to sit by himself. Lily was angry and could not go to bed without Blue Kangaroo. She cried in bed, apologizing to Blue Kangaroo. Blue Kangaroo sat alone in the dark and finally had an idea to draw a picture and put it under Lily's mothers door. He jumped back onto the bookcase and when Lily's mom asked who drew the picture Lily stated "it was you, Blue Kangaroo!" and Lily apologized to Blue Kangaroo.
