Note: I received a digital review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This is a beautiful book with stunning art and a touching story, but I can't get over the ending. If I re-read this one, there is a point about 3/4 of the way through where I will stop and consider the story done. The ending is very poignant and real (which is an odd thing to say about a book which has a library inside of a whale) and I was not at all ready for it. https://nwhyte.livejournal.com/3782794.html I previously read and enjoyed Judith Vanistendael's De maagd and de neger; here she is the artist, Zidrou is the writer, and they have produced a lovely and moving short story about a whale who contains an entire library, and the marine postman who makes friends with her. The Willy Vandersteen jury described it as "F***ing accessible" which seems to me a slightly strange but not inaccurate description. Once the English translation comes out, get it for your younger friends or relatives and enjoy it with them sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
A poetic fable for grown-ups full of wisdom and beauty, by two Belgian masters of graphic storytelling. Out on the high seas lives a whale unlike any other, who spends her days reading stories to all who will listen, taken from the vast library hidden in her belly. When the whale bumps into a sea postman's boat one fateful night, it's the beginning of an extraordinary friendship. But not every story can have a happy ending...
