This is Western version of The Little Red Riding Hood, it is full of rattlesnakes and cactus jam!

I would use this book in my classroom by comparing and contrasting this version of The Little Red Riding Hood to the original. I would use Venn diagrams for the students to explain how they are different and how they are the same. ( )

As the girl is riding to her grandmothers house she runs into the wolf, but she continues to her grandmothers house. When she gets their the wolf is inside the grandmother. This is a twist off of the little red riding hood. I would use this book to show the difference in a fairy take and a fractured fairy tale. I would use this with a younger reader around 2nd grade. I liked this book for many reasons. I liked how the author created her own version of Little Red Riding Hood, while also staying true to some parts of the original story. The language was very descriptive and I liked how the author used different fonts on the page to emphasis the text. For instance when the author "Bam!" and "Pow!", the font is bigger and darker than the rest of the words on the page making them stand out. The illustrations really add to the text, allowing the reader to see how Little Red looks like a sweet young girl and the Wolf looks frightening. The message of the story is for children to understand it is not safe to talk to strangers.

I liked this book for many reasons. This story is a different version of Little Red Riding Hood however, it is about a little girl named Little Red Cowboy Hat. Little Red sets out to deliver some jam and bread to her grandmother. Along the way, Little Red encounters a wolf who is very mysterious. The wolf follows Little Red to her grandmother’s house and threatens to eat her. This book is written very well. I like how the language was very descriptive. The author uses different fonts on the page. For example, when the author writes “Pow!” and “Bam!”,she uses bigger and darker fonts to make the words stand out. I also like how she describes the characters. The author makes Little Red a sweet little girl who is going to help her sick grandmother. The wolf is also described as scary and should not be trusted. The illustrations of this book add to the text. The illustrator makes the wolf look scary and Little Red is a little girl with a red cowboy hat. The big idea of this story is not to talk to strangers. This is a big message that should be emphasized to younger children. This book is Modern Fantasy because the author uses a logical story line and the author makes the story seem real even though a wolf cannot speak in real life.
