In the past century, the leading causes of death around the world have shifted from infectious diseases to long-term chronic illnesses. What's killing us today isn't so much flu or tuberculosis, but heart disease and cancer. In fact, more than 1.2 million Americans die from these two diseases each year. Paradoxically, these chronic diseases are a consequence of living longer than ever. But even if we're living longer, are we living better? The overwhelming number of people now living under the burden of chronic illness indicates otherwise. After surviving two bouts of cancer, Dr. Stephen Kopecky, M.D set out to discover the behaviors people can adopt to live longer lives free of chronic illnesses and diseases. What he discovered was that the answer lies in just six habits that require small changes to your daily life, but reap big results long-term. From adopting better diet and exercise habits to managing stress and sleep, these behaviors can preserve your health, improve your quality of living, and extend your life. The secret, however, lies not just in the steps themselves but in how you accomplish them. This book offers in-depth insights on: the best foods to eat and why; increasing physical activity and improving fitness; why your sleep habits matter; the dangers of stress and what to do about them; the true impact of alcohol and tobacco on our bodies how to make changes that will last a lifetime.… (más)

To make a big change, start with very small steps. By taking care of your health by eating right, taking care of your body in all ways one day at a time. Like the fable the tortoise and the hare taking care of your overall health to live a long and satisfactory life well into the 100s requires simple lifestyle habits on eating, getting the amount of sleep that you need for your body and no more than that. Eating slowly to savor the food without technology surrounding you. Eating in silence without drinking anything. Not rushing to eat just to go do something else. But to enjoy the process of eating mindfully. Eating healthy with a few snacks mixed in that you are dedicated to that bring you absolute joy every week. Eating responsibility and knowing what you are eating and how to read a nutrition label and why you are truly eating the item. Is it because of others you are eating the item? Or is it because you truly enjoy eating it weekly or monthly? Know why you are eating an item before you eat it. Examine all sides of the item before buying it.

My why for living longer is to achieve a health that is nearly perfect with minimal symptoms from my medical conditions. And eating healthy with one favorite ice cream with celery sticks and hummus for snack.

My motivation to live long is also to never be around people who deter my health in any way mentally or emotionally. But to be around people who uplift me and who I can champion and encourage in a positive and subtle way to be better, do better for themselves and my relatives around the world no matter what. Support those who are struggling any way I can. No matter what.

What is my reasoning for living long and fighting to support a family member back home through my father to live a long life? My reasoning is I know life is not easy and the finances are not the same in either nation. But the love and dedication that my family showed me back home make my life worth it and make my support for them even more firm. Even if it is a small amount. It goes a long way.

My how is to give back weekly every Friday. And give it in love. And give myself five points every time I give money.

Eat only red meat when my mother or first sister cooks it. No dairy except ice cream, cheese sticks, and yogurt.

Exercising for sixty-six minutes daily at three point three miles whilst keeping hydrated and listening to music whilst reading a book keeps me active and engaged with the written word and learning and growing in knowledge.

Practicing meditation through only speaking if there is truly a need. And not when there is not. A lot of times, there is no need to speak. Just to hearken and understand and explore through noble silence. Using as few words as possible. Because words are precious. And I do not want to waste it on saying anytime if I do not have to. Or am not required to.

But what I learned from this book is you have to take your own health and its unique particularities in your own control because in the end it's your body you have to live with and care for. Sk we must be responsible for what we put in and how we nourish it. As well as how we rejuvenate it through healthy sleeping habits, eating mindfully, and exercising in a peaceful and relaxing way that ensures healthy and continuity all our days. ( )
