The real reason to read this book is to find out what happens to James’ suddenly appeared baby brother {21yo} Tiago. Especially because the next 5 books are about him! There’s a few chapters about this new addition to the plot, it’s all resolved with money because, reasons, and everyone is home in time for James’ birthday. But even this doesn’t phase Rain and her narcissist tendency - even once James finally fills her in on it. She asks some perfunctory questions but really is thinking “oh great, another thing to keep my husband away, poor me!” *facepalm*
She has some cringe inducing internal tantrums because Ed is coming home to be with his pregnant fiancé and Rain is such a narcissist that she can’t just be happy and believes she can’t get pregnant because she’s too stressed and anxious when James is away from her (it “torments her” when he’s gone after spending a few days with her because she never knows when he’ll be back again). And tries to get James’ attention by attempting to rashly sell her apparently very successful online male escort service without talking to James who I’m pretty sure is you know, like, a business mogul and would be able to help her - just to get his attention. And thank god for her bestie Eve who calls her out on her stupid games.
Rain has no agency as a character in this book - and in the series. This frustrates me because she’s been through some crap and should have learned things, instead, she reverts to her god awful teenybopper inexperience and becomes a clingy needy spoiled rich girl (she always was one actually) who stamps her foot when she doesn’t get her way. She leaves for their private island and tells James not to come to her physically until he can stay with her permanently; they still talk on the phone often but she needs to ‘find herself’ and get herself together. And this works. In the end, James comes to the island a month later and she’s all like, he can be with me all the time! I hope she improves in the next books.
These would benefit from proofreading and editing. Often there are words missing or the grammar is strangely arranged and jarring in places. And the use of the words “fashions,” please stop using this prior to describing what a character is wearing: “He fashions a silver button down dress shirt with navy silk tie and dark charcoal slacks...” Every description of clothing includes “fashions” as the active verb and it’s wrong. Also, there’s an inordinate amount of chiffon worn in these books; seriously, no one wears chiffon that much. If you want true fashion, go for silk. It’s so bad, for a moment I thought these were badly translated. I keep saying, it could be the fact that these are digital versions, but I don’t know in this case.
I read this book on Kindle Unlimited using my own paid subscription service. All opinions are my own. ( )
