Being a supernatural bounty hunter isn't exactly a popular job. But after the magic wars, there aren't many things a human can do that will put food on the table. Thankfully anything my right hook can't handle, my guns can. Or so I thought. When a demon summoning runs awry, the being that comes into this world changes everything. I'm not sure if he's truly a monster or a god, but one look into his flame filled eyes and I know-Ronan will never let me go. If he can catch me, that is. Game on, motherf*cker. ? Book 1 of 4 in the COMPLETE Demons of New Chicago series. Note:Touched by Fire is an enemies-to-lovers urban fantasy romance. You can expect a bad*ss bounty hunter and a possessive demon love interest. This series is slow-burn but high steam. Reader discretion is advised. If you can't get enough of books by Ella Summers, Shannon Mayer, Deborah Wilde, K.F. Breene, and Jeaniene Frost then dive right in to the dangerous depths of New Chicago. Beware of headstrong heroines with snark. These ladies don't bark. They bite. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

Worldbuilding:
Was good, we're in a modern, post-apocalyptic (New) Chicago, and things really went south after the Magic Wars. Real food is impossibly expensive and only for the wealthy and supernatural and humans are at the bottom of the ladder in society. You really don't have a lot of options as a human in this world.
All scenes and environments were well detailed and clear. The author doesn't spoonfeed us the info, we learn together with the characters what's going on. And even that turns around so often, yeah, I'm not sure we'll really know till the end of the series :D
Character development:
Was good. Loved how Piper was this pretty damn cold and unapologetic bounty hunter, we really need more of those! You're either going to love or hate her :D
While both Piper and Nathalie have deep trust issues (amongst others), you do feel they have grown a lot during this instalment.
Ronan is still a delightful mystery which I cannot wait to unravel more of.
For some reason though (and this is probably entirely me), I just couldn't really connect with them :(
That said, they have good depth and are an intriguing bunch, even the side characters feel like they really matter.
Pacing and flow:
Were great! As we've come to expect from the author, the story just holds you in its grip and you're stuck with it till the end :D It had a lot going on, but didn't feel over the top or rushed.
Great balance between conversation and action.
The book itself was well written with no (noticeable) errors. There is no sex described (if that is important to you).
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and all in all I found it to be an enjoyable and intriguing read. I am looking forward to getting to know the characters more and to find out if Piper will ever get over her distrust of everything magic. ( )
